GLOSSARY




  • Methodology. It is a system of practices and procedures that a teacher uses to teach. It will be based on beliefs about the nature of language, and how it is learnt (known as 'Approach'). In the classroom, many teachers base their lessons on a mixture of methods and approaches to meet the different needs of learners and the different aims of lessons or courses. Factors in deciding how to teach include the age and experience of learners, lesson and course objectives, expectations and resources.
  • TESL. It is the teaching of English to people who live in an English-speaking country, but whose first language is not English. TESL is an abbreviation for 'teaching English as a second language'. For example: When you teach English to Asians or Latinos in the UK, USA, Canada or in any other English speaking country
  • TEFL is the teaching of English to people whose first language is not English, especially people from a country where English is not spoken. TEFL is an abbreviation for 'teaching English as a foreign language'. For example: when you teach English to Peruvians in Peru.
  • STT is student talking time
  • TTT is teacher talking time
